Cinematography and Video Editing

I've been into cinematography and video editing only since the past one year and am still a beginner. It all began when I joined the Photography Team of Monday Morning, the student media body of NIT Rourkela, which also happens to be India's 2nd largest student media body.

Since then, I haven't looked back and have successfully been a part of 5 major video projects - The NIT Rourkela Annual Freshers Video 2019, the Innovision (Annual Techfest) Aftermovie 2019, the Annual Convocation Video 2020, the Memoir Video- Class of 2020 and The Campus Awaits Video.

3 of these videos involved a fairly sizeable multidisciplinary teams while the other two had just one other member involved apart from me.

The NIT Rourkela Annual Freshers Video 2019 also recently became the first video of the organisation to cross the 50,000 views mark on YouTube ever! While, 'The Campus Awaits' video became the most liked video in the history of Monday Morning in less than 40 hours of its premiere on YouTube!

Here are some trailers and sneak-peeks into some of my video projects:

The Campus Awaits- NIT Rourkela

'The Campus Awaits' Video was made using stock footage of the campus shot by Team Monday Morning, including me. The entire video was completed in about 2 weeks time in mid-August. It has cinematic shots of the entire campus with the themes of how desolate the campus looks now versus how it used to teem with the hustle and bustle of students once. It has a narration to convey the core message of 'This too shall pass' towards the end of the video.

The video received widespread appreciation and was viral amongst the students, professors and alumni alike and became the most liked video in the history of Monday Morning, India's 2nd largest student media body in a record span of just 40 hours!

Innovision 2019 | NIT Rourkela Aftermovie

'Innovision 2019 Aftermovie' video was a recollection of all the major events and activities including the Pro-shows of Innovision 2019, the annual techno-management fest of NIT Rourkela, also the largest of its kind in Eastern India.

The cinematography and editing was done by a team of 6 and the project was completed in 3 weeks. It was released in January 2020.

Freshers Introduction Video 2019 | NIT Rourkela

The annual Freshers Video or the Freshers Introduction Video 2019 is probably the first video of Monday Morning in the new academic year. It needed a team of about 20 cinematographers, journalists and video editors over a period over a week to shoot all the sequences, cinematic shots and the interviews. The entire video required a lot of planning and turned out to be very good. It's premiere was screened at the Institute Freshers Day 2019 and was received very well.

The video has set the record for the most viewed video in the history of Monday Morning, with over 50,000 views in less than a year of its release!

XVII Convocation Video 2020 | NIT Rourkela

The XVII Convocation 2020 of NIT Rourkela was held in mid-January 2020. The video has casual nostalgia-invoking Q/A format along with some cinematic shots. The entire project took 2 weeks to complete and was pretty well received by the NITR populace.

Memoir Video - Class of 2020 | NIT Rourkela

The Memoir Video for the Class of 2020 was a farewell gesture from Team Monday Morning for the graduating batch. The video was made from crowdsourced clips from the entire batch and was a runaway success.

It reached 4000 views within hours of its release and is the first such Memoir/Class Song among NITs.

Innovision Day-2 pro-Show coverage

I've been an amateur photographer (read mobile photography enthusiast) since class 7 when we had bought a smartphone. But I actually delved into photography only in the second year of college when I was inducted to the photography team of Monday Morning, the student media of NIT Rourkela which also happens to be India's 2nd largest student media body.

Since then, I've worked on a number of projects and assignments as part of the 10-member team that works throughout the year. Being the face of the insti, photographers are tasked with covering events, working on creative photostories and galleries of fests apart from cinematography and video editing.

I got to learn many things and overcame a lot of initial hiccups. Sports photography and clicking photos in dull lighting were a few of them. I use Adobe Photoshop primarily for editing with Lightroom for fast edits and adding watermarks.

Here are a few of my photos, many of which I had clicked as a part of the Monday Morning Photography Team (or PTeam as we call it!)
